My New Hobbies Will Be

It's funny, each time I move, it seems that I start out poor. I look forward to cohabiting with Ahi in the new apartment. However I am trying to be creative as I look forward to the free or cheap activities we will be able to afford. Here are the things I am looking forward to, in no particular order, except for #1.

1. Adult Activities that are unmentionable in mixed company and previously in polite society
2. Night running, with Ahi either running or cycling next to me
3. Sea World, the monthly payment plan makes the annual pass easier to "afford"
4. Crock Pot dinners, because Ahi is a pro
5. Walking on the beach, it's only a mile from our door
6. Learning how to ride, the beach cruiser since I can't afford a road/tri bike any time soon
7. Learning how to swim, the apartment pool is heated and usually empty even when the area is full
8. Knitting while Ahi watches sports, I have a lot of yarn stashed
9. Two-for-one dining, on special occasions
10. 24-hour Fatness, last year I paid for 3 years up front
11. Reading by the pool
12. Catching up on movies, I just can't seem to cancel my Blockbuster plan
13. Leaving work at a reasonable hour to spend QT w/ Ahi
14. Volunteering for races I can't afford to run
15. Eventually open water swimming, Crystal Bay is 1 block from our door
16. Drinking more juice, Ahi comes with the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer
17. Getting back into classes, it takes a long time when you can only take one class each semester
18. Running Mt. Soledad, Ahi can ride it since it is reputedly one of the best rides in San Diego
19. Snorkeling, I love holding Ahi's hand underwater
20. Visiting friends and family, and hopefully making new friends
21. Free Tuesday at Balboa Park, it would be worth using a vacation day, but Timken is always free
22. Taking Ahi everywhere we haven't had a chance to visit yet, or revisiting places we have
23. Walking down a couple of blocks to watch the Sea World Fireworks
24. Attending free culture wherever we can get it, even, gulp, experimental theater
25. Resurgence of the monthly tea party club???
26. Running more 5Ks since they are more affordable than marathons
27. Day trips to the mountains and the desert, you know, because when you live by the beach...
28. Webcamming the nephews and nieces???
29. Making time for photography, drawing, and other artistic endeavors
30. Watching picture in picture on the couch with Ahi, cooking and sports.
31. Chilling on the balcony, or riding the trainer on the balcony if Ahi gets his way
32. Trying out one new restaurant each month, even if we have to share an entree
33. Learning how to play tennis, the courts are by the pool
34. Playing horse, the courts are by the pool

Annie: I wish you lived closer to us period.
Christina: Sounds like a plan, you first.
Pete: Not for at least a year. The funny thing is that now I am thinking of all the things I will miss about Washington!!

12. The SDPL has on-line searching and hold features, so you can give up Blockbusters, in exchange for free movies, though you might have to wait a little longer for the new releases.
32. Yumeya - Encinitas
35. Shopping at Viejas

George: We have DVDs here where I work too (SDSU Library). LOL. But I am thinking of catching up on Battlestar Galactica, Big Love, Heroes, etc. I will search SDPL for Anne of Green Gables since it is "long wait" on Blockbuster. Thanks for the restaurant suggestion. No shopping for me except window shopping and Fashion Valley is only 10 minutes away for that.

It's much nicer at Viejas, though. Have you been? And, even though it's an outlet store, everything is still too expensive, so you're not really tempted to buy anything. Then you have fish tacos for lunch and ColdStone Creamery for dessert before heading back to town.

George: Yep, I've been to Viejas many many times. When I used to live down here, I went all the time. They don't have as many shops as they used to. But the problem is that it is right across the casino and although I'm not a big gambler, it is tempting to go and play the slots and hit the buffet.

The Carlsbad Outlet is swankier and they have a Crate and Barrel store! And there's Rubio's and Cold Stone Creamery there too. ;)

Is #10 intentially spelled that way? You have no fat, so I can't imagine you would go for that reason. Sounds like you have a lot of livin' coming up! Good for you.

Especially when you're not a driver and have to rely on other people - more bang for the buck and less inconvenience for them.

When I used to hate driving, I would always treat the driver to lunch and/or dinner, that was the deal.

24 Hour Fitness Gym, yes I spell it that way on purpose, just like I used to spell LA Fitness "LA Fatness" when I went there.

59-Mile Scenic Drive for when you feel like a "road trip." To save money, just take your picture at all the spots, enjoy the views, and bring a picnic lunch. Watching the gliders launch from Torrey Pines is always fun. :)

Things I Have Collected

Although I don't consider myself a pack rat, there are things I have collected throughout the different stages in my life. I still find it hard to let them go.

As an infant, I collected air as I grasped for a loving touch from a distant mother.

As a toddler, I collected silence as I sat alone on the floor with my toys.

As a young child, I collected knowledge unfit for one so young.

As a pre-teen, I collected betrayal unfit for anyone.

As a teenager, I collected forbidden love to rebel against the hypocrisy of those who had betrayed me.

As a young adult, I collected heart break as my soul was scarred beyond hope.

As a Vicenarian, I collected stability in attempt to redeem my scarred soul.

As an early Tricenarian, I collected miles as I ran away from the unhappiness that stability wrought.

Now, I collect love and laughter as my soul slowly heals and reaches towards hope.

Sorry to step into the teacher mode again after so many years, but I just had to say what a nice job you did with this. Each intangible you collected shows a hurt or yearning part of you and the last line, an acceptance and transcendence of what was. So glad there's so much hope these days!!!

Mrs. Bolden: I don't mind you continuing to be my teacher. You were one of the key people to influence and support my angst riddled writings. I guess the angst isn't necessarily confined to high school prose.

The last line is my favorite. Never stop reaching or hoping! You're surrounded now by so many people who care for you that you won't have to reach too far or wait too long.
