I have been seriously slacking when it comes to running. My last three street runs were tough but rewarding.
While Ahi was out fishing, I spent some time at my best friend's ranch in Bonsall. I went for a morning run on 8/27/08 around her neighborhood. She had warned me that it was hilly. Unfortunately, most of the streets were dead ends and I could only get about 5.5 miles. But that took me a good hour!! Afterwards, I drove to the Oceanside 24 Hour Fatness and did the bike and 3 more miles on the treadmill. Here are the hills that broke me that day:

Last Friday (9/5/08), I really needed to run. Just a cumulation of crap all week, I needed to detox. Since I hadn't run all week, I told myself to just take it easy. I didn't want to get discouraged by worrying about pace. I started out slow and before I knew it, I was zipping along, easily. I was not pushing it, but whenever I looked down at my watch, I was under 8:30 pace. I slowed down after the first 5k. I had to check at least two people on my way home. I love transferring my sweat onto inconsiderate sidewalk hogs! I did my 8.52 mile route in around 1:17. I know an average pace of 9:04 doesn't seem that outstanding, but I was still ecstatic. I think it was a real morale booster to keep seeing my watch under 9:00 for the majority of the run.
Yesterday (9/10/08), I went to lunch with a co-worker. He was asking if I had taken Ahi to Mt. Soledad yet. He mentioned that it was a good hill for cyclists and maybe even runners. So, when I got home, I Google mapped it. It was only about 4 miles from my house. I noticed that there was the teensiest bit of an incline on Fanuel/Cardeno. I tried not to think about the massive incline I was going to find at the end of the street. I gave a really good effort to run up the whole way, but I did take walk breaks when I noticed my "running" pace was 12:00. There were tons of cyclists flying down the hill. Which reminded me that going down wasn't necessarily going to be easier. I ran up to the top where the controversial cross is. I forgot how amazing the view is. I only stopped to drink from a water fountain and just walked all the way around then ran back down. I tried to restrain myself. Testing different gaits in order to minimize knee impact. I let go when I noticed another runner across the street. Fortunately, it only took about 20 feet to pass her. Overall, my run was 8.62 miles in 1:25.
Here is the elevation:

I always have all these plans to run a regular schedule. But I just get so tired from work and now school. Unfortunately, I've never been good at keeping a routine. I just have to run when I feel like it. I guess, just like I'm an emotional eater, I'm also an emotional runner.
