Ahi and I are running the Fremont Oktoberfest Brew Ha Ha 5K on Sunday. I'm planning on running in costume. See below. This will be the first time I have done so. Even though it is only a 5K, I am a bit concerned about the boning, satin, and lace that makes up my outfit. Obviously, I'll be sporting a sports bra and running shorts underneath. But I don't think satin is too breathable and I know lace is chafing, while the boning is restrictive. Plus it's two pieces, so I imagine the top will be riding up. I might have to body glide my whole top half.
I have decided that for this race, I will not stop at the water stops. I have done this at both my previous 5K races. However those races were run at higher temperatures. Supposedly the temperature in Seattle on Sunday will be 60°. I can do my 8 mile training runs without water, I think I can survive 3 miles, even at racing effort without water.
What I haven't decided is whether I will take it easy and take in the sights or if I will really race. There were about 900 runners at last year's Brew Ha Ha. I know that I can't compare times from another race, but looking at the results from last year's race gives me hope. If the results are about the same, I could probably finish in the top 10 of my age group. My goal is 25 minutes. However, that is dependent on my ability to run at full throttle in my costume. I was able to run a 25:29 in the "smoggy" heat, with an injured foot. So, we'll see.
Obviously I won't be running in stiletto mules. I might wear white thigh high stockings if they'll stay up. Or at least wear them with black mary jane flats after the race. Of course there will be a beer garden afterward. There will even be a cigar lounge. I'm really looking forward to it all.

I wouldn't worry about time. Have a blast and laugh the whole way. You won't even notice the discomfort because you'll be having so much fun. We runners get caught up in all teh equipment but I've run like 3 miles in jeans. I've run in doc martens. Those army dudes do the mud run in boots and bdus.
Definitely thigh highs :-).
Have fun! Will ahi be in Leiderhosen?

Thanks for the advice. I tend to get really stressed before races, no matter the distance.
Ha ha, I know! He should have bought a costume too!!
