IF: The good news, the bad news, and the potentially really bad news

If my foot hurts worse after today's long run, then I have to schedule a CT scan on Monday. He just kept saying I have an extra bone or the bone is weird, but not an apparent stress fracture. He thinks there may be a tendon issue causing stress on the bone. The bad news is that I'm supposed to stop wearing flip flops. I'm supposed to pick my battles: flip flops or running. I don't know if I can overcome my addiction to flip flops. I may have to stop running. Who am I kidding? It sounds like the potential damage due to my flip flop addiction wouldn't occur until I'm much older. Maybe by then there will be a bionic solution for my foot.

If I need a CT scan and it shows something worse, then I will have to rest. Which is funny since I have not really been that active. Except for learning how to ride a bike, a little stair training, a little running including an easy SF half marathon, and all of the events I have scheduled for the next three months: Bike the Bay 25-miler, Kauai Marathon, Stair Climb to the Top, Long Beach Marathon, US Women's Triathlon Series Super Sprint Tri, and Santa Clarita Marathon.

If the CT scan is bad, the podiatrist threatened to put me in a cast. He knows that will be the only way that I will actually rest. It's also a way for him to keep me out of a flip flop, on my left foot at least. ;p

Sorry to hear your foot is bothering you; why is it always the parts we need most to do what we enjoy that start to fall apart first? You know, you two could move back to Seattle - we only have about two weeks where flip-flops are appropriate, anyways. Good Luck!

I was told no flip flops two years ago and didn't listen. You have lofty goals as well....learn from me and skip the flip flops. (easier said then done...)

I would have to wear no shoes if they took away my flip-flops! Sorry, darlin!

My podiatrist told me I have Hallux Limitus, or basically degenerative arthritis in both my big toes. My left one, which I tore up last October, is basically screwed for life, and can only be treated through surgery (which he doesn't recommend yet this early in life) or managed with cortisone shots for, basically, forever.

He told me the same ... Read Morething, no sandals or soft soled shoes. No running, which I heartily accepted, and *GASP* no grappling, which I told him to pound sand. He said he knew I would say that, so I'd just have to keep living with a game foot forever. He recommended I buy these screwy, expensive MBT shoes or get orthotics.

Here's hoping it doesn't hurt after your run today. I know how I'd feel if I was told that I couldn't ride which is probably like an addiction to flip flops. So I can see why you'd be way worried. Isn't barefeet better for the body than flip flops? They sure are comfy tho. Anyway, get better. Give up the shoes if it lets you run. :)

Hey - your toes are pretty (and crooked... is that from flip-flops?). If you think yours look funny... you should see my hubbies! ;-D

Yikes, who can walk in flip-flops anyway? Oh, I forgot I did when I was young LOL Now I do wear Berkenstocks and I agree they seem fine. You love to run, so whatever it takes to keep your dream -- even if it means giving up the f/fs.
:) :)

Have you tried Teva flipflops? Are they more supportive?

G-I love Tevas, I gave up Reefs for them. But alas, no, not more supportive. I wonder if I can get cutlets for my flip flops.
